What is an IP reputation score?
IP reputation is an estimate of how likely an address is to be abusive, based on what it has been seen doing. On isipsafe it is a confidence score from 0 to 100, built from recent reports and threat feeds.
What the numbers mean here
| Score | Band | A sensible response |
|---|---|---|
| 75 to 100 | High | On the blacklist by default. Blocking is usually reasonable. |
| 25 to 74 | Medium | Add friction, such as a captcha, rate limit or closer review. |
| 1 to 24 | Low | Log it and take other signals into account. |
| 0 | None | Nobody has reported it recently. This does not prove it is safe. |
How a score is built
- Independent sources matter most. Each reporter counts once, however many times they report.
- Recent activity counts for more. Only the last 30 days count, and reports fade as they age.
- Sources are weighted by how reliable we judge them to be.
Other services use different data and methods, so the same address can score differently elsewhere.
What it cannot tell you
A score describes an address, not a person. A shared VPN exit or a mobile carrier's address can collect reports and still carry legitimate users. Addresses also change hands, so a score is best used with other signals rather than as a verdict.
Try it on your own address, or see how blacklists and whitelists use these signals.
