CrowdSec alternative: isIPsafe compared
isipsafe and CrowdSec take different approaches. isipsafe is an IP reputation database you query or download from, while CrowdSec is software you run that detects attacks locally and shares signals. You can use them together, because CrowdSec can report to isipsafe.
| isipsafe | CrowdSec | |
|---|---|---|
| What you use | A website, API and downloadable list | A Security Engine on your systems, plus a console |
| Free blocklist | The whole list with a free account, with no agent needed | About 15,000 addresses if you contribute regularly, or 3,000 if not. Only through the Security Engine. |
| List tailoring | You filter by score, country and IP version | Tailored to the behaviour your engine reports |
| Local detection | No. It relies on tools such as fail2ban. | Yes, which is its core feature |
| Reputation API | Free, up to 10,000 lookups a day with an account | From $49 a month for 5,000 queries |
| Larger paid lists | Enterprise, with no public price | Premium Community Blocklist of up to 60,000 addresses. Platinum Blocklists from $1,900 a month. |
Which suits you?
isipsafe may suit you if you want a list or API without installing an agent, or need to look up individual addresses.
CrowdSec may suit you if you want a tool that detects and blocks attacks on the server itself, and are happy to run its engine.
